Explore Your Medical Options For Premature Ejaculation Dysfunction

Premature ejaculation is undoubtedly an embarrassing condition, particularly when coupled with a less than sympathetic partner. If you find yourself suffering from premature ejaculation on a regular basis, it is time to take action and harness your ejaculations and climaxes - your sex life depends on it!

First, it's important to understand just why this may be happening to you to begin with. Some factors are:

Psychological factors: If you suffer from sexual repression, this undoubtedly will impact your sexual performance. This can manifest in a number of ways, one of the most popular being premature ejaculation. This can be as bad as sexual molestation when young, to you being scolded once for masturbating in your room by your parent. Consider your emotional state, too: men who are stressed out or depressed are also far more prone to premature ejaculations than those who are relaxed and happy.

Genetic factors: Did you know that premature ejaculations are hereditary? They certainly can be! If your father, uncle, brother, or grandfathers suffered or do suffer from premature ejaculations, then your chance of suffering from it increase greatly.

Physical factors: Any spinal cord or head injuries can seriously impede a man's sexual performance. This is due to both the nerves and hormones that are required for a man to ejaculate properly being interrupted and malfunction. Any sort of penile infections can also cause premature ejaculation; as can having "over active" pelvic muscles.

Unrealistic expectations: This must be mentioned, as men are often believing that they have a sexual dysfunction when, in fact, they are perfectly normal and healthy. Consider yourself if you ejaculate any where from 5 to 10 minutes after penetrating a female. If you ejaculate in 2 minutes or less on a consistent basis, then you may very well have a problem.

Depending on what is causing your premature ejaculations, a number of prescriptions may be given to you. Bear in mind, however, that there is not one premature ejaculation medicine that is created solely to treat this condition; they have been formulated to treat other problems, such as depression, which just so happen to have the side affect of delaying a man's climax.

Selective Serotonin Reuptake Inhibitors: Otherwise known as "SSRIs", this is perhaps the most "popular" prescription for those with premature ejaculation dysfunctions. Some drugs that you will recognize from this list may be:

- Paraxetine (Oxetine, Paxtine)
- Fluoxetine (Lovan, Zactin)
- Sertraline (Eleva, Setrona)

The only downside to SSRIs is that they do need to be taken daily, rather than shortly before sexual intercourse. As with most of these drugs, SSRIs can reduce a man's sex drive to almost - or completely - nothing, or cease his ability to experience an orgasm.

Tricyclic Antidepressants: You may recognize the names "Anafranil" or "Placil". These are antidepressants that can very well delay an ejaculation, though there is a threat of completely ridding a man of any sexual desire as well. There has been some reported success with the drug "clomipramine", but beware of the side effects, such as constipation, hot flashes, dizziness and nausea.

Phosphodiesterase inhibitors: Also known as PDE-5, you will recognize such drugs as "Levitra" and "Viagra" as belonging to this classification of prescription drugs. I know, I know, these are used to treat erectile dysfunction, but due to the close link between erectile dysfunction and premature ejaculation, these drugs have proved to be an effective treatment method as well.

Whatever route you choose make sure to consult with a health professional to make sure you are treating this condition in a safe manner.
